i get that its a tumblr meme, but i just dont understand why people hate john green so much. was it his reaction to the cock monologue?? do people just really hate his books and in extension him?? i just dont understand why there is such a widespread genuine hate for this man???idioticsilverware
we watch the world history crash course for my history class, and john green is the one who hosts/does the talking. everyone dogs on him all the time. like, not even in a bad way? just like a bunch of high schoolers annoyed with a guy. like, one time, the teacher paused it right as he said "hi my names john-" and everyone was like "*mocking voice* hi my names john" or "dude imagine being named JOHN" or "bro why's he sound like that"
1) the what monologue
2) john green suffers from the same thing superwholock does. everyone on tumblr used to be OBSESSED with john green. as they grew up they obviously found some flaws in his books they didn't notice before, and then they decided that he is actually complete trash. now he is part of tumblr's "cringy" past and is considered cringe just like that "let's make a tumblr university" post
someone edited one of his posts on tumblr with a long rant about him liking the taste of cock. This obviously upset him and people mocked him for it.
First shot done, lads!
Big ups to the dude that gave it to me, I barely even felt it!spaded-aces
My arm is sore lol
I had really bad side effects. Make sure you stay hydrated because the vaccine dries you out. and when you sleep stay off the side you got the shot. Good luck ^_^ /
Oh happy international asexuality day!
I highly doubt this is true since there were no citations but can you imagine a Koopaling getting voiced by Channing Tatum?
dude ok. i was in the middle of writing a post about how i wish there was more naturalistic voice acting in animation bc improv comedy is not the only way to use that potential. like how much more flavorful can a casual conversation or any dialogue involving strong emotions be if the characters are not reciting some perfectly composed speech punctuated with few if any strategic filler words?
and then i was like wait a minute. why does any irregular speech pattern have a bunch of connotations associated with it, and they're almost always negative?
think about it. "too many" or any filler words are for annoying teenagers, smug and lazy and dumb people. stuttering means you're nervous, aka a socially awkward loser and/or a suspicious liar hiding something. awkward pauses, slurring, stumbling over your words or mispronunciations are all a statement of your trustworthiness and intelligence. dont even get me started on non-standard grammar and dialects because holy sociopolitical implications batman.
and then i realize i'm not even talking about media anymore, these are all real life assumptions that people have while interacting with flesh human beings who are in all likelihood not trying to present themselves as unintelligent or untrustworthy, it's just that making the mouth noises to live in a society is a bit of an ordeal.
and you know what doesn't help? media that constantly reinforces assumptions about irregular speech patterns that make people treat others as less than.
what i'm not saying: the concept of scripted dialogue is evil because all writers have a hidden conformist agenda or are complicit in it!!
what i am saying: can we all just be more patient and not judge people when they talk in "weird" or "annoying" ways but are otherwise just trying to exist? also i would love to hear more naturalistic voice acting bc variety is the spice of life

I feel like I should make a DNI but really it's just all the same things as any decent person wouldn't want to interact with. And honestly I usually just quietly block people if I check out a new follower and they post anything horrible (thankfully that hasn't happened on here yet). But I used a DNI on a kidcore blog I had on tumblr and it never even actually seemed to work and I was still blocking people all the time.
I obviously don't want to seem like I'm an ally to any rascists or anti-lgbt or xenophobic people but I also feel like I do everything I can to not be the kind of person that anyone like that would want to follow anyhow?
I've thought about this too, but honestly, I figure there's two types of people you don't want to follow: those who're openly awful and display why you wouldn't want to interact with them openly and those who know they're views aren't viewed kindly and won't advertise it (or worse, will fake their appearance and dnis to seem safe). Since im the type to not really wanna get too aggressive about things (ie I'll have a conversation in good faith and I try to avoid hostilities or misunderstandings) having a dni almost seems hostile, even if it's a precautionary thing. Maybe it's because I don't want to have to think about all the shit that pisses me off , much less boil down to a single list. Plus there's the chance that someone sees that list and wants to fuckin fight me about it. Im not looking for a fight and I definately don't want to offer a cheat sheet to things that piss me off. I feel like it has the potential to open doors I'd rather keep closed and shut doors that might lead to positive interactions. Maybe I'm being too defensive, maybe I'm not being defensive enough.
I'm definately not knocking people who have DNIs, I just feel it's not the approach I wanna take to (especially) this community. If you can't tell if I'm of good character from the way I post or the fact that I'm a queer as fuck non-binary transman, if the risk is just too damn high, please don't follow me. I will not meet your expectations. I am full of flaws and proudly so. I'm human and ever changing. I am not perfect. If I ever give you a reason to hold that against me, that's fine. I'm not here to fight people. It's not my job to convince you I'm a nice person, though, my goal is to make it self-evident.
Yeah i agree with that. Also, and i may be alone in this and a bit naive, i feel like exposing those kind of people to other ideas can only be good in the long run. Even if DNIs work, them being excluded and only having people with similar minds to talk to is a perfect recipe for more radical ideas. idk. like whatever your views you can follow me if you like, i won't follow you back but i won't block you. i'll only block if you do or write something hurtful.
anyway that's just the way i see it :)
I just dont trust that the people I dont want to interact with would actually listen to a DNI. Instead I prefer an About page so people Id like to interact with my content know Im Chill.
Like instead of saying "No homophobes/biphobes/ transphobes" I talk about my gender and sexuality.
Instead of saying "No pedophiles, MAPs, or supporters" I mwntion my kid and make sure all posts with his photo are edited to rove his face and cant bw reblogged.
Plus the list of people I really dont want to interact with is actually longer than I Could write out, so Id likely miss something. I dont want to constantly edit something that stresses me out or reminds me of upsetting things.
I figure if I invoke positve things then positive will reach me.
@UnidentifiedBlog thank you for the compliments! I love my yarn stash too. I feel like I need more solid colors to go with everything. But this is definitely enough to keep me busy for awhile.
I also want to do yarn reviews as I use each Skein. But that requires me to remember to do it before I make something 😅
ive been gone a long time so reblog this so i can follow you!
I'm new here!
Have 0 idea what I'm doing! On the site and in general, but I'll figure it out!
Waterfall - End of Year Twostaff
Once more we find ourselves in Waterfall's birth week - the initial launch being on the 10th December, and the first advertising being done on the 17th - so it's time for the annual reflection post! Waterfall has been around for two years now.
First, I want to give a huge shoutout to the community. It's been a shit year for everyone and I'm not going to say The Phrase™, but everyone on here has supported each other and propped each other up when they needed it, and made some fantastic pieces of artwork to boot. Be proud of yourselves, you've earned a rest.
Waterfall went through some changes this year, mostly behind the scenes. It went back to being officially a solo, personal project, and funded entirely by Patreon. Subscription features were scrapped, and the plan now is everyone gets everything. More on that later.
Waterfall is in what I'd call a "stable" state. More users join every day, at a steady rate that's not terrible, but not impressive. Overall activity seems to increase more or less on par, but again - it's not terrible, but not impressive. A lot of people are waiting for the rewrite update and the app, so this is understandable.
Using the above, I can start to plan for the future. First, premium subscriptions - there won't be any. The more I thought about it over the last year, the more I realised I absolutely hated the idea. It's artificially limiting to people, and it's a very corporate kind of move. Considering half the reason I started the site was because I was tired of corporate bollocks, that didn't sit well with me, so it's gone - there'll be milestones on the Patreon instead that unlock the extra features for everyone on the site. I want to see if I can make that work instead. It'd be sweet if I could just do it without the milestones but realistically, since I'm doing this instead of getting a Proper Job™, I need to pay the bills I guess - but overall, I don't want this to just be another corpo site that sells your data (which I don't do, by the way. No data selling, at all. The only income is patrons).
Immediate term - get the rewrite done. I was hoping to deploy it on the 17th, as you know, but getting enough sleep and dealing with depression is a full time job on it's own, so I'm relaxing my schedule a bit and using the extra time to do some things in the pipeline that'll make my job easier as I go, since I've neglected that over the last two years. It's still coming as soon as I reasonably can get it out of the door though.
I got sent an ask on Tumblr while I was writing this about how Pillowfort coming out of beta affects the site - the tl;dr is it doesn't, but the full answer is linked there if you feel like reading it.
The app. It's well overdue, but good news - I have a working prototype. It's able to login and view posts, and make extremely basic text posts. That's progress, and not bad considering I've been building it while rewriting the entire site from scratch, I think. The main barriers right now are getting network detection to be a bit more reliable (we've all gotten pissed at the "connection flimsy uwu" messages on the Tumblr app), and getting a decent text editor written for it. Battery usage is also irritating me at the minute - it's probably fine and I'm just being a perfectionist, but I want to see if I can get it a bit lower. That said, I expect to start betas within a couple months - active development on the app will resume once the main rewrite is out and any bugs have been fixed.
Over the next year, something I really want to focus on is community building. I want to implement tools you guys can use to build your networks, reward good contributions and stuff. I also want you guys to be able to, if you want to be, more involved in the site's development, so I set up a proper place to request features and report bugs.
Obviously, getting more folks here is going to be the biggest driver, so please feel free to spread the word about the site in the meantime!
I'm in the home stretch with it all, and I'm excited to see if you guys like what I'm cooking up.
As with last year, I calculated the environmental impact of the site, and offset the carbon. This year, I split the offsetting funds between a wind power project in Rajasthan, India, and a project to bring clean water to families in Laos. Also as with last year, I threw 20 bucks to Team Trees.
We've come a decent way this year, though not as far as the first year - but that's fine. We've all had a crappy year. Let's hope next year is better, and we can make this place something good.
I owe a lot of the success of the site to you guys for sticking around and making it what it is.
If you can't make your own universe, store brought is fine
Yarn review 🧶
This is the yarnspirations Caron Chunky Cake
Color: Rainbow Jellys
Fiber content: 100% Acrylic
Initial thoughts: super soft and squishy. Beautiful vibrant colors. I do prefer more frequent changes in color. This one is more like strpes of color. So a lot of blue, then green, then yellow etc.
Using the product: It took me awhile to find the end. I dont know if thats typical of cake yarn (this is my forst time working with one), or if I was jist not paying attention.
It recommends an 8mm hook. This is my first time using a hook this size so I was a little clumsy but the yarn itself looks good worked up. It doesnt split, but it did slip off my hook a few times. It will definitely take me some time to get used to it, but I am excited to see a completed project in this beautiful yarn
Project planned: Im making a hood with this yarn
Im boosting the score of this yarn to an 8/10 because it actually worked up well once i got to the second row.
Tumblr once again claims to be the site with "the sanest takes", and then I open it and every single of this takes (mind you, a lot of them are actually good) starts with:
And it often ends with "but you're just going to scroll past this post and pretend it's never happened, huh".
I get that everyone is tired and angry, and for the right reasons sometimes, but seeing those beginnings just doesn't fill me with a lot of enthusiasm, since I don't really come to social media to be yelled at (and I don't see why I should be looking forward to being yelled at). Reading this feels like being yelled at, and spreading it feels like yelling at the others. However, that's just how everyone talks there I guess, and I even suspect that the reason a lot of people reblog some posts is that they feel obligated to do so.
Am I wrongphantomflame03
One of the many reasons I left tumblr. There was a moment when people were calling out that type of language, but the people making these sorts of posts clearly didnt care/diddnt listen.
This continual act of blaming people for not knowing something or not wanting to interact with certain things grinded down any interest for me to engage with important subjects on there.
I will let System Of A Down do this one for me. As you know, this famous band has reunited in 2020 with two new songs, "Protect the land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz", to bring the light to the Armenia-Azerbajan conflict, which is viewed by Armenians as a continuation of Armeninan Genocide. This has spiked anti-armenian hate crimes in other countries like France and America, where Armenian genocide memorials were being vandalized. (source: mostly retelling Serj Tankian instagram account from memory, sorry. I've lost the links, please google something along my words if you want to know more). SOAD members are talking about this on their website , and this is where you can download the album and make a donation to help Armenia. Here is the Armeinian humanitarian aid fund.babushka
As some of you might have heard by now, AO3 has gone down a very dark path as of late, alowing users to write and upload sexual content of real, underage people. This is a significantly different matter from allowing it of characters from anime and such, but, from what AO3 staff have said, it's sanctioned. (TW on those links for pedophilia).
So, I'm here to announce today an acceleration of my existing plans, and introduce you to Inkwell!
Inkwell is a writing site, in a similar vein to AO3, with a few core differences.
What kind of stuff can be posted on Inkwell?
Fiction and writing projects of all kinds, including essays, character analyses, chaarcter profiles for your OCs etc. Original works, not tied to any existing fandom, are very welcome!
What stuff can't be posted?
Sexual content involving characters aged under 18, or stuff involving real people. Anything else is a go.
How will it integrate with Waterfall?
The plan as of write now is that you can post writing on Inkwell, and then, if you want to, cross-post it to Waterfall using a fancy button on the site. Then, it'll make a nice, pre-formatted special kind of art post for you that links to the site. Partly because the Waterfall format isn't amazing for long-form writing, and partly because Inkwell can have some formatting options that WF can't support. This forms the writing upgrade to Art posts.
The slip in the first sentence wasn't intentional but I'm keeping it because it's funny
When will it be available?
I need a short break for a mental reset from WF, so I'm actively working on this right now. Beta could be up within a couple of days - Patrons (https://patreon.com/thellere hint hint) may get early access with everyone else being let in later, if they don't vote to release it to everyone immediately.
AO3 has started allowing people to upload sexual content involving real minors. I think we can agree we need somewhere else now.
Yes, this is another spite project, though it was also planned months ago.
When will it be available?
It'll be available for patrons to beta test in the nexrt few days. Once we've worked out the major bugs, it'll go public.
Will the site defend our right to write fanworks as much as AO3?
Yes. I'll do everything in my power to protect the users of the site and, if I am being pressured about a certain work, that user will be notified as soon as possible in private so we can work together on the matter.
What sort of features will it have?
If AO3 has it, Inkwell will have it. It'll just take a little time, especially the tagging system - but we will get there.
Feel free to hop in the Discord to discuss!
I dropped all my prices on redbubble for the holiday season! https://www.redbubble.com/people/kaylanaiad/shop?asc=u&ref=account-nav-dropdown

As a heads up I might not bother with getting the full CM working for 1.0, it needs rethinking/redesigning
May end up just scrapping it tbhmastersteelblade
I'm getting a little flak for this in my inbox already, so here's the explanation post.
Over the existence of the CM, it has made Waterfall $20. That's $2 a month. Waterfall costs $620 a month to run, and that's not factoring in stuff like paying myself. Considering the number of commissions and messages, that seemed low so I checked. The answer as to WHY it's so low, it turns out, is artists telling people to pay through personal PayPal stuff instead.
By rights, this is a site ban. It's in the TOS, don't try and move payment off site. The problem is, pretty much every artist using the CM is telling people to do it. Many cite the 5% fee as the reason. A few go on a speil about how I'm exploiting artists or whatever (we'll ignore the flip side of that where those artists are exploiting me by using the site as a free listing). This is even after we lowered it from 10%.
I cannot stress how little money Waterfall makes. I am relying on this to survive, and it doesn't even come close to covering my bills. So really saying "I don't want them to have that 25 cents" (actually closert to three cents since we pay your transaction fees) is a pretty big slap in the face. I'm sure I don't need to go into basic economics here and explain how this also, over time, increases the likelihood of the site dying because I can't afford to run it anymore.
So this leaves me in a situation where I'm assuming all the risk of something going wrong, and getting absolutely nothing in return. I hate to break it to you but like. This is a business thing. Waterfall is a commercial venture that, as I said, I am relying on to get me the income eventually to survive on. This is not a charity, and the CM is not intended to be a free listing for you. It's intended to get me a little passive income for assuming some of the risk for you and helping you find clients.
I've put in two years pretty much full time and took on crippling debt to make this happen, all while not charging to use the site like Pillowfort or whatever. So when this is happening, I have to step back and ask myself "Objectively, is the CM worth it? Does the income from it make sense with the fact you'll have to spend time mediating disputes, bugfixing, and liasing with PayPal and Stripe?"
Right now the answer is just a hard no. I'm out of money, so unless there's a sudden massive attitude shift, which I've learnt I can't really count on, the CM just doesn't make sense to finish up.
Hence, it might be scrapped. Will it? I dunno, we all know I'm a fucking idiot and work on stuff that probably won't pay off. But objectively, from a "I literally have a personal net worth of negative five figures right now from how much I've invested into Waterfall" perspective, bothering with it is a really bad idea.
It's-a Waluigi time! (AKA 'tis time for Waluigi headcanons.)
